Anyway, let’s get on with the review! I’ve had this lying around for months now. Thought I might as well finish it.
What is Kat Von D’s Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist like?
Makeup setting sprays are products I used to actively avoid because 1) they sound like they’d be bad for my skin and 2) I don’t wear makeup much anyway. But at a friend’s fervent recommendation, I decided to give Kat Von D’s Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist a try. At RM125, it costs a bit more than how much I’m usually willing to spend on a product that could possibly break me out, but again, my friend.
Her exact words were: “It’s so light, it doesn’t even affect my sensitive skin!”
Sensitive, huh? Sounds like it could work for me.
It was without further ado that I tested it out not too long after. Just like she had said, the product is so light that I don’t feel like I’ve got anything on my skin after it dried. No weird, sticky film, no nothing. It was just extremely comfortable and mild, and it holds a soft, feminine scent that I personally find calming.
It is actually so light, I’d liken it to being lighter than water. An added plus is that it absorbs into your skin quite quickly, so there’s no need to worry about waiting for too long for it to disappear. Love it.
Packaging
Like most Kat Von D products, the Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist is housed in a gothic-style package. It has an interesting look that I do not disagree with, but the thing I like about it beyond aesthetics is the fine mist it emits. Rather than getting big splashes of product on my face when I first sprayed it on, I was greeted by a light, fine mist that veiled my face comfortably. This is definitely one of my favourite things about it.
That said, I do find that its opaque design makes it hard to gauge how much product is left.
End result
At first, I was apprehensive about giving this product a try. A setting mist? Sounds like something that would irritate my pimple-ready skin.
I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. I’ve been using this setting mist for months now, and not once has it caused my skin to break out. In fact, it is so light, it has not caused any negative effect to my skin. That is how agreeable it is with my oily, pimple-prone battle ground.
It also manages to keep my makeup pretty much intact without issue. This, despite my obvious oily factor. That said, I have noticed that for areas that the mist didn’t manage to completely cover, there were signs of my makeup slipping off. Though I’m generally pleased with this spray’s performance, this is the only bit about it that bothers me a little. It makes me wonder if I should opt for the powdered version instead. At least I’d be able to properly control the areas the product would cover then.
If it turns out it is not as effective, though, I’m happy to switch back to the spray. The payoff far outweighs the slight downside.
